As I prepare myself physically for this long journey, I am also preparing myself spiritually. I have been studying in Luke chapter 10 recently. In this chapter, Jesus sends out 72 of his disciples and tells them in verses 2-4: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road”. What resonates with me the most is when he says “I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves”…when I think about this upcoming trip sometimes I feel as if I am being sent into the midst of the wolves. Sometimes I am nervous about the road ahead of me and what it holds. I’m only 17, still in high school, and the longest I’ve ever been out of the country was 6 days. But I’m going to live out of the country for NINE MONTHS?? I really do feel like a sheep. When God calls us his sheep some would say that it’s not exactly a compliment. Sheep have no way of protecting themselves on their own, however sheep are inherently intelligent creatures. They have a good memory, impressive cognitive skills, and they have the ability to recognize their Shepards voice, just as we recognize our Shepard’s. I heard my Shepard’s voice call me out and lead me to this mission trip, and he told me to have blind faith and to trust in Him. I am trusting God in this process because I know he’s protecting me. John 10:27-29 says “My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer…no one can steal them from out of my hand. The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him”. I am protected from whatever will come my way. Whether it’s spiritual attacks, mental roadblocks, or physical needs, I know my God will hold my hand and lead me through the whole way.
